With a 250km race both saturday and sunday tested the pairs driving well into the early evening darkness both days.

After a long and eventful 12hr race the #5 GT motorsports R8 LMS prepared by Melbourne Performance Centre has taken out class honours and 6th outright at the 2016 Liqui Moly Bathurst 12hr. MPC prepared 5 Audi R8’s for the event 4 of which were the all new LMS MY2016 versions. But unfortunately suffered some minor issues throughout the race but managed to get back to 8th. The other 3 cars, 40, 74, and 9 all suffered damage and were not able to finish the grueling race which often breaks the hearts of the men and women who try to conquer it.

The combination of Christopher Mies and Ryan Millier took the round win, an amazing result in their first weekend together in the JAMEC PEM Audi. 2nd was Nathan Antunes, this result elevating him to the championship lead after Tony Quinn’s challenging weekend. Trophy class was won by former GT4 class champion Mark Griffith in his #19 Hogs Breathe Audi R8. Steve McLaughlan had an impressive result too with a 9th in very tricky wet/drying conditions. Rob Smith had his debut in the championship with the team this weekend in his Southern Star Developments R8.

AudiSport MPC pilot Nathan Antunes has taken victory in the final race of the third round of the Australian GT Championship Presented by Pirelli in Townsville. But it was not enough to win the weekend overall. The Ferrari round win also means three different drivers or combinations have won the first three rounds of this year’s championship. Adelaide round winner Antunes was second overall for the round via his win today in a race he always looked in control of. Less compulsory pit stop time for his Audi R8 LMS Ultra helped him vault the Ferrari to take the lead of the race when he re-joined from his stop. JAMEC PEM AudiSport driver Steve McLaughlan finished sixth clear of John Magro’s Lamborghini. The Christopher Mies/Greg Crick JAMEC PEM duo had an up and down weekend but have managed to hold strong in the championship standings sitting in 3rd. Next round is at Sydney Motorsport Park August 21-23 which will suit the Audi’s perfectly
